Ve své době hudebním tiskem kontroverzně přijaté album. Na "Black And Blue" se u Rolling Stones poprvé objevují prvky reggae, sound se zaoblil, drive byl potlačen do pozadí. Prostě úlitba tehdejším trendům, těsně před nástupem punku.
